REFERENCE REDEFINED.

To overcome the dynamic limitations of reference IEMs, we had to design STORM from the ground up. That meant that we had to develop new technologies and experiment with new methods of tuning. What we already knew prior to making the STORM was not enough - we had to push the boundaries to unearth new possibilities in the world of IEMs.

SLAM Technology

LIGHTNING AND THUNDER

IEMs face trouble capturing the dynamic swings that speakers tend to reproduce well. For the past 2 years, we ran countless experiments to uncover new methods to improve the dynamic ability of IEMs. We experimented with different driver types, new acoustic chambers and different driver materials to achieve the bass presentation we desired. The result of this rigorous development process was SLAM technology, our proprietary method of decoupling drivers.

The STORM's SLAM woofers achieve a whole new level of tactility and impact while retaining precision and control. It was only through the integration of SLAM woofers that it was possible to replicate the vast and dynamic experience of professional studio main monitors, while maintaining the required control.

Through this process, we have redefined what is possible with IEM woofers. With bass extension down to 3Hz, STORM's bass is not only heard - but felt. The sheer dynamism of STORM keeps you on the edge of your seat as you await to hear every swing in your music.

Furthering the EST

DISTILLED AND REFINED

The new Sonion EST Driver is a modern breakthrough in tweeters that allows for excellent treble extension. However, they are notoriously difficult to implement, with most modern implementations having severely limited output or creating incoherence. Simple crossover systems cannot bring out the best in ESTs.

We needed to develop the industry’s most complex crossover system to create the perfect environment for the ESTs to excel.

Our CTRL True 7-Way crossover unleashes the full potential of the ESTs. STORM consciously layers the ESTs with BAs in a seamless transition, retaining the best attributes of both. Gone are the days of wispy and weightless EST treble. Instead, STORM translates treble with a delicate balance of grit and smoothness, aggression and refinement, alongside boundless extension.

Truly speaker-like in presentation, STORM features unprecedented accuracy and all the textural diversity your music deserves.

Transparency

TRACE THE EDGES

Most IEMs feature heavy damping to control sharp resonant peaks of their drivers. While easy and convenient, this method incurs huge resolution and dynamic penalties that result in lifeless, uninspiring sound.

To overcome this, we designed a complex midrange array that utilizes phase shifts instead of damping to control resonance. With minimal damping (and we really mean extremely minimal as only the woofer is lightly damped) resulting in an unimpeded acoustic path, STORM is able to achieve incredible transient clarity and micro-dynamics.

By consciously selecting the fastest BAs on the market and implementing them with extreme parameters for the first time through our true 7-way CTRL crossover, transparency is even further improved. CTRL tightly limits the range these drivers play, maximizing efficiency and resulting in blazing speed that will allow you to trace the edges of your music precisely if you so desire.

Collectively, these breakthroughs allow STORM to achieve jarring dynamic capabilities not just with its bass, but also through its midrange and treble.

Every stroke on the string of a violin and every clash of a cymbal will jump out at you. Sit back and smile as the STORM dances effortlessly through the many layers of your music.

Timbre

SIMPLY RIGHT

With resolution and transparency at the forefront of most discussions around IEM technicalities, other technical characteristics like note weight and timbre have fallen by the wayside. STORM was intended as a reference monitor and was expected from the outset to be holistically competent in all areas of technicality. This required us to find ways to maximize resolution while maintaining proper timbre and density.

This meant we had to exclude the usual tricks used by the industry to increase perceived resolution such as thinned out lower mids, overly fast decay, or elevated and uneven treble response.

Instead STORM utilizes a combination of precise phase shifts, proprietary internal chambers on select drivers, and top-of-the-line components in its CTRL crossover that minimize unnatural odd order harmonic distortion to achieve realistic decay and timbral accuracy.

With STORM, you won't be thinking about BA tone, DD rumble or ethereal ESTs. STORM simply weaves your music into one cohesive and natural whole.

Soundstage

SPEAKERS ON THE GO

The soundstage of STORM is unlike any IEM that has come before it. In contrast to the more spherical and elliptical soundstages that most IEMs project, STORM is meant to replicate the perceived depth and more rectangular stage projected by speakers.

Through the implementation of internal chambers on the drivers playing fundamental frequencies, alongside precise channel matching that goes above and beyond the industry average, STORM defines the soundstage to the very corners and avoids the curved stage and diffused edges prevalent in the vast majority of IEMs. STORM not only projects a large stage but also precisely defines the space between instruments. Track instruments precisely as they pan seamlessly across the stage and layer forward in infinite steps.

Bask in a constellation of sound as STORM makes the speaker experience portable for the first time.
